Meet the Artist

Zuha Bari is an artist and architect whose practice explores the movement of colors, and the shifting balance of constructing and deconstructing. Drawing from Maldivian heritage, her work traces the movement of nature, memories and tradition as fragile layers that are torn apart and reassembled in a new form. She weaves stories not with thread, but through a process by collaging, and transforming materials into spaces where the past and present meet. In this ground of patchwork, Zuha explores how simple stories are reshaped across generations yet never lost.

Fragments in Motion

Reflecting on Maldives, a simple story, the work unfolds a journey through history and memory. At its core lies our link to nature: patterns, colors, and the rhythm of abundance and stillness that shaped our identity.

The process is a mirror of history: roots once fragmented and forgotten resurfacing, now gathered and documented. These torn fragments are collaged and threaded together like stories stitched through generations.

Captured in fabric, the work becomes a woven palimpsest, carrying the weight of memory and the quiet act of weaving together what was remembered and lost.

The stay at Viyaage offers an experience of the work as a puzzle, an invitation to take part in the quiet act of reassembling and retracing memory, piece by piece.
