Meet the Artist

Emaz “Emma” Abdul Shakoor is a homegrown, self-taught mixed-media artist based in Malé City. Her artistic journey began not with formal training, but with a simple, years-long habit: collecting miscellanea—sea glass, coral sand, and shells—from the Maldivian seaside. In late 2022, inspired by online shell art, Emma found the confidence to translate these “gifts of the ocean” into intricate compositions. Her early work evolved from abstract shapes and geometric patterns to detailed local sceneries, eventually focusing on Maldivian flora and fauna. Emma’s meticulous process involves arranging these natural elements onto paper, creating detailed silhouettes of marine life and land creatures. Driven by a deeper appreciation for slowing down and appreciating life, her art is a powerful reminder that wonder is found in the overlooked, fragile beauty of the everyday.

Gift from the Sea

Athiri Mathi immerses you in a tropical island atmosphere, reflecting the beauty of the beach and the crystal-clear waters of our home. Many pieces are inspired by sightings at the resort—like a lemon shark swimming close to the beach or spotted eagle rays gliding past while snorkeling. The shellwork is lovingly fashioned from ocean gems: sea-glass, shells, akiri, and sand. These materials capture the details of the environment, from the bougainvillea above the walkways to the hermit crabs scuttling around. This collection is purposefully created to allow you to admire and appreciate the natural beauties of the island from the comfort of your room, preserving the unique mood one feels upon stepping into Oaga Resort.
