Meet the Artist

Aishath Shuaila is a visual artist who works with a variety of different mediums from watercolours, gouache, acrylic, and charcoal. Through her use of colour, fluid brush strokes and mark making, she portrays a reflection of the environment and her imaginary world. Her art is deeply rooted in her connection to nature and often depicts otherworldly landscapes and natural objects.

While she studied sustainable development, Shuaila has always been drawn to art. Her love for the environment not only guided her studies but also influenced her art. In her paintings, she explores the relationship between nature and self. To her, the self and nature are not separate; they are integral parts of a unified whole.

Having lived most of her life away from home, she made the decision to return to her roots in 2018. Now living with her family, she finds solace and inspiration in the comfort of her home and community.

Lovers in Bloom

Bursts of colour, patterns in nature signals for attraction, calls for connection.
An expression of desire, an invitation to come closer.

Love and desire, desire and love, the most natural things. And yet, in modern life, these instincts are interrupted, covered by silence, pressure, and distance.

A single letterbox stands in the room. You’re invited to slip in notes: anonymous words you never spoke, or words you longed to hear. Regrets, confessions, fragments of longing. With each letter, only age, gender, and country are recorded. Writing becomes a gentle release, a way of letting go of the unsaid, or gifting yourself the words you wished for. Together, the blooms and the letterbox form a conversation. The heat of novelty and desire, and the ache of silence.

..it felt intimate, like exploring the space between two people in love. I wanted to create something to colour that shared experience..
