MURAL

Kaa Kada

Kaakada, which translates from Dhivehi to “food stalls,” embodies the spirit of Baiy Fiyafaalhi—a lively space during auspicious occasions where a variety of delectable offerings coexist under one roof.

CONCEPT

A Nostalgic Harbor Food Court

Kaakada, which translates from Dhivehi to “food stalls,” embodies the spirit of Baiy Fiyafaalhi—a lively space during auspicious occasions where a variety of delectable offerings coexist under one roof. Designed with this concept in mind and guided by the vision of Oaga Art Resort’s leadership, the illustrations were collaboratively created by our four main artists—Sobah, Mamdhuh, Manie, and Nadee. Once the illustrations were completed, the carts were painted by Oaga Rahvehinn, under the direction of the lead artists.

MURAL

Kaa Kada Wall Mural

The long, bright wall behind the carts at Kaakada was designed by one of our collaborating artists, Shimanie Shareef (Manie). She describes the creation of the Kaa Kada mural as a process filled with creative flexibility and experimentation. After an exchange of ideas, Shimanie finalized a sketch that fuses global cultural festivities with Maldivian influences. Drawing from her past mural experiences, she made quick adjustments as needed. Despite the challenge of completing a 90×4-foot mural in just a few days, she embraced the task. In her words: “It’s amazing how much you can accomplish when you’re focused and in the zone! Fully immersed in the painting process, there are moments when the experience feels clarifying and timeless. Time seems to open up, and the experience becomes expansive.”
