Maldives ; A simple story

Meet the Artist
As an underwater photographer from the Maldives, Alwan has had a lifelong fascination with the ocean. Growing up surrounded by the sea, his childhood was spent on boats and in the water with family and friends, which ignited a deep love for marine life. This passion is the driving force behind his work. His photography focuses primarily on marine fauna, capturing the intricate beauty and dynamic behaviors of the creatures that inhabit our oceans. Through his lens, Alwan aims to transport viewers to a world that remains unseen by most—the mysterious and vibrant depths of the sea. He wants his images to not only showcase the stunning biodiversity beneath the surface but also to inspire a greater appreciation for the fragile ecosystems that marine life depends on. Every photograph tells a story of the ocean’s hidden wonders, encouraging a deeper connection to our planet’s most vital resource.

Kaleidoscope of the Underwater World
This exhibition is an urgent invitation to engage with the vulnerable underwater realm of the Maldives—the 95% that exists beneath the waves. For most, the experience is limited to the surface: pristine white sands and the turquoise sea. Tragically, what is “out of sight is all too often out of mind.” This hidden world of kaleidoscopic corals and majestic manta rays suffers silently from environmental destruction. This collection uses powerful photography to celebrate these natural wonders while bridging the gap between surface beauty and hidden crisis. The discarded “ghost gear” fishing net on the wall symbolizes the urgent, man-made threats they face. To allow us all to be part of this dialogue, the exhibition also invites viewers to an interactive piece within the villa: a Dive/Snorkel Logbook to document your discoveries, transforming your personal adventure into a vital contribution.
“ ..my focus was on creating an intimate, immersive experience that truly connected guests to the ocean just outside their door... ”
