Meet the Artist

Kasabu by Hidha was born from a love for tradition and a vision for the future. Founder and artist Hidhana Latheef first discovered the craft of Kasabu weaving in 2017 and turned it into a brand in 2019. What began to keep a fading tradition alive has grown into a creative movement—reviving the intricate embroidery of the Dhivehi Libaas and reimagining it in modern accessories and art pieces that speak to all ages. At its heart, Kasabu by Hidha is about preservation through innovation: keeping cultural heritage alive, educating future generations, and sharing the beauty of Maldivian identity with the world

"A Story Rewoven”

In Maldivian folklore, Hawwafulhu is the villainess of “Dhonhiyala and Alifulhu”—a woman silenced and misunderstood. This exhibition reimagines her truth: what if she acted not from malice, but from heartbreak and longing after Alifulhu abandoned her? We invite you to see her not as a shadow, but as a woman with her own voice. Central to the collection is the blue Libaas, a dress transformed into a symbol of her deep love. The central sunset piece marks her death, signifying that she died still loving him. All artworks are created using Kasabu Viyun, reviving this traditional Maldivian weaving practice. A “Gathaafai” kit is placed in the villa, encouraging you to explore this beautiful craft.
